News on the Wedding Front: The Date

Remember the emotional roller coaster I mentioned yesterday? Well, the entire saga was wrapped up in a date. Why was I so distraught over a date? Who knows. I know you shouldn't let little things get to you, but we had been set on June 13th for so long that I couldn't imagine any other date. We had gotten quotes from three photographers based on that date, so I was excited to have "options". Unfortunately, I found out a week ago Friday that our reception site was not actually available on the date that had been discussed. In fact, the entire month of June had been booked.

So, we were back to the drawing board. Because Steamboat isn't always thawed out before Memorial Day, we were hesitant to book an outdoor wedding before June. We were pretty set on our outdoor wedding, as most indoor sites in town just don't have the mountain character that we were looking for... OR, they were entirely too much for our budget. Steamboat does not have very many "affordable" venues to choose from. We have finally decided on two particular venues based on our budget. The Yampa River Botanical Garden was our immediate choice of ceremony site, based on budget primarily, but the views are just amazing.

This site, however, was not conducive to hosting the reception. At first, we had discussed hosting the reception at Olympian Hall, named after the many Olympians that have come from Steamboat. Unfortunately, while the site has a lot of character and has views of the ski resort and Emerald Mountain, it is also located right next to the local ball fields where Triple Crown tournaments are held. (The building is a bit older, too, with bathrooms that leave a lot to be desired... they remind me of school restrooms actually.) For aesthetic purposes, we decided to do a little more searching.
After a bit of research (and contact info from a friend in the resort business), we stumbled upon the new Steamboat Springs Community Center. Neither one of us had been in the building, as it was just completed in June of this year. I had heard that it boasted hardwood floors and a chandelier, so I was hooked! After a bout of phone tag with both venues, a new date was settled upon... July 25th. I was a bit upset that we wouldn't be married for an additional month and a half, but I quickly got over it and excitement kicked in. Another month to save money! Another huge plus... we get use of the kitchen, tables and chairs! What a savings on rentals!
